Keystroke is a typesetting and graphic-design company providing the full range of pre-press and project-management services to the publishing industry. This includes an array of editorial functions and a project-management service that brings it all together. As specialists in book production, Keystroke can take publishing projects from raw manuscript to print-ready files, ensuring high quality and unrivalled customer care at every stage.
The company was founded in 1985 by Paul and Maggie Lindsey-Jones. With several years of industry experience already under their belts, they wanted to create a company steeped in quality control and dedicated to customer satisfaction. They were soon providing design and typesetting services to several publishing houses, including MacMillan, BBC Worldwide, Routledge, Cassell, Sage, Verso, Virago and Persephone.
In 1993, Keystroke ventured into project management, taking responsibility for the full production workflow. The move was a big success, with seamless workflows resulting in fast turnarounds and high quality standards. Among our customers were the British Academy and Routledge, for whom we produced more than 250 titles in 2016.
Keystroke’s list of clients is not limited to publishing houses. We have also produced numerous journals, brochures and reports for private companies and non-profit institutions. Meanwhile, our work with self-publishing authors is growing daily, including the boom sector of eBook publishing.
The growth in business has seen Keystroke’s staff expand too, with the UK headquarters boasting a tight-knit team of production editors, typesetters and designers. We boast an impressive array of skills and ensure the company keeps pace with technological innovations, including new digital platforms.
Keystroke’s editorial work relies on a database of 60+ freelance copy-editors, proofreaders, typesetters and indexers. Between them, these editorial experts can work with a wide array of subject matter, including HSS (Humanities and Social Sciences) and STM (Scientific, Technical and Medical).
In addition to its UK headquarters, Keystroke has an office in Portugal and a support team in India focussed on digital output and complex typesetting work. With staff in eight countries and further plans for expansion, Keystroke is fast becoming a global business.
Keystroke is a modern, forward-looking company with decades of experience to back it up. We know typesetting and graphic design inside out, respecting long-established industry standards, while keeping pace with the latest innovations.
We are committed to quality on all levels. This means providing a reliable service to our clients, being fast and efficient, and paying great attention to detail. Above all, we put our clients first, ensuring effective two-way communication at every stage. Authors are at the heart of publishing, and we take author care seriously.
Creating any published product can be highly rewarding, but also technically demanding. Working with a dependable company like Keystroke can make a real difference.
